Trace

In this Project, we had to make from a random tool, another use of it, changing everything we want, but mantaining the base of it. My tool was a compass, and I started from the point of build a tool which uses the main qualities of the original one. I thaught about lamps, hoses, all kind of things. But despite thet I love them, it wasn´t what the guess teacher was looking for.

So, in a desperate moment, I tried to cover the compass with tempera and start hitting it in the inside faces of a cardboard box. It was a great and artistic experience, but I could’t create something that abstract without a meaning. When suddenly I saw a shadow of Jackson Pollock, and I felt inspired by it, and I tried to recreate a paint basing me in the Pollock’s style. The problem was that the result didn’t reflect anything related with the tool. But then I thought, “What if instead of create something, I dis-create it?”.

So I put the compass in the centre of a big stone cardboard, black and with tempera, and two compasses with brushes, I threw the paint over everything.

When the paint was dried, I took out the compass, leaving the shadow of it, being without being, leaving its own trace behind.
